Unifi is a WiFi system that includes a large number of access points. It is equipped with a controller that allows for programming and thus opens up wide possibilities for use.
The controller allows you to distinguish between users by access right, display on the administrator’s monitor the coverage area of each of the access points, and much more.
Such features of the unifi system make it possible to provide fairly large areas with wireless Internet, which can accommodate numerous receiving devices.
The appearance of the equipment is pleasant and does not take up much space. The unit can be mounted in various ways, on the wall or on the ceiling. Most often, unifi systems will be used in offices, hotels, restaurants.
Connect and configure unifi
At the first stage, unifi must be connected to the distribution device and connected to the power. A bright LED on the device’s case will light up. On a special disc that is included with each device, a program is recorded, UniFi Controller. It is necessary to carry out the installation. At this point, you need to pay attention, since the controller is the basic part of the system. It is he who makes it possible to control the network, provide customers with roaming and guarantees security.
After the program is installed, you can begin to configure. Here is the choice of language and country of the user. Unfortunately, the language can be English, but users do not have problems with countries, the list is quite extensive. Click the “next” button.
A further setting item is the choice of the unifi device. If there are no additional settings in the room, the selection will be made automatically. If the equipment does not appear in the dialog box, check and adjust the system.properties file.
This selection of settings must be completed. This is the initial unifi network, in the same window you can configure public WiFi for guests. Set the settings and click the “next” button.
Now enter the administrator password. At least eight characters are required. Press the button “next”.
In this window we can control the entered data. We look through them and press the FINISH button
From this moment, the fun begins. Before us appears a login window. Enter previously programmed data here. After entering the system, the control panel opens. This includes a diagram of the installation object of the device, for example, a hotel plan.
The controller program interface is completely English, but understanding the settings is easy. The administrator can see all the connection points here, and also has the ability to make network settings at will. From here you can set the frequency of updating information, and make other adjustments for the optimal use of the system.
The MAP tab allows the administrator to set a name for each contact point, to indicate its coverage area. Additional functions allow you to set connection points on the diagram, write down information about MAC addresses, make notes on the number of channels and possible functioning, here you can indicate the number of free visits and main users. On the right side of the screen there is the ability to work with the map scale, which allows you to make small details.
The STATISTICS tab opens the administrator statistics for each user. This tab allows you to find out the full range of technical plan information.
The ACCTSS POINTS tab provides complete information about the junction point. There is data on the channel, the workload of the object and the consumption of resources. The menu allows you to restart the contact point and indicate its configuration on the diagram.
The USER tab gives user information. Demonstrates connection quality, connection time, and other data.
In order to get more detailed information about the access point, you must select it in the menu. A small window will open. To determine a point in the diagram, you must click the locate button, the selected object will begin to flash. From this submenu, you can block the user or reconnect.
The Configuration submenu tab allows you to calculate the MAC address and select the channel of the access point manually or automatically.
The Channel line indicates the channel width and transmit power (Tx Power section)
The next setting item is the SETTINGS menu. Here you can create a network, give it a name, create individual settings for the system, lock devices and change general settings.
The guest configuration scheme for the UniFi system is very simple. Here you can start or disable access or limit attendance. You can manage individual users from the guest category through the “Guests” tab.
